Bandalore
Piano miniatures composed by an automaton. Found inside an elephant clock, 1206.
Biography
Bandalore is an instrumental project: short piano pieces in the tradition of the early twentieth-century French piano miniature, chamber music that is technically demanding but light, with a child's sense of play on the surface. The piano is always at the center; violin, celesta and strings come and go from one track to the next. The name is an old word for the yo-yo. The first album, The Elephant Clock, takes its title from the water clock described in 1206 by al-Jazari, an engineer from Upper Mesopotamia whose automata played music centuries before the European music boxes. Each piece starts from its title, not the other way around. The album is still being written.
