Maya Lobo
Brazilian folk, chanson, and bossa nova — a bittersweet blend resulting in a poetic cabaret of saudade
Biography
Maya Lobo is a Brazilian solo artist who sings in Portuguese and lives in the space where Brazilian folk, French chanson, and intimate cabaret meet. Born in Brazil, she later studied music in France — a path that shaped her hybrid identity and explains the natural blend of Brazilian intimacy and European delicacy in her work. Her sound is minimal and fragile — fingerpicked guitar, a quiet accordion, light percussion, acoustic bass, long cello notes, and small instruments like glockenspiel or toy piano. Everything breathes, everything has room. The emotional center of her music is impermanence, and she sings about what doesn't repeat, what slips away, what vanishes while it's still happening. There's a tender melancholy to it, never dramatic, never loud. Her lyrics carry a worked simplicity, where every image is clear but still echoes long after.
