Mona Lisa Override
An all-women punk rock band from Los Angeles blending cyberpunk themes and dystopia with current social critique and the defense of minority rights
Biography
Mona Lisa Override is an all-women punk rock band formed in Los Angeles by four musicians from different corners of the United States. The name nods to William Gibson's Mona Lisa Overdrive, twisted into something more active — an override, a hack, a seizure of control. Their sound draws from punk's political tradition with distorted guitars, fast drums, shouted vocals, and the raw energy of riot grrrl. Their lyrics aim at the present through a cyberpunk lens: technocapitalism, digital feudalism, algorithmic addiction, surveillance, authoritarianism, climate denial, reproductive control, and the erosion of democracy. Their debut album 'Digital Manifesto' is exactly what the title says — tracks like 'God, Guns & Algorithms', 'Synthetic Dopamine', and 'Castle.exe' attack the systems that run the world while defending LGBTQ+ rights, feminism, and the voices that power tries to erase.
